The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Estimated Price: £17.95

The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a single malt Scotch whisky matured using a traditional wood finishing process developed in the early 1980s. It is aged initially for at least 12 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads before being transferred to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for a further nine months. This multi-cask maturation imparts both delicate character and a rich depth of flavour to the whisky.

After the sherry cask finishing, the whisky is harmoniously blended in large oak vessels known as "tuns" for three to four months to allow the different cask influences to marry. This careful crafting method results in a smooth spirit featuring sweet fruit and sherry notes on the nose, with honey and vanilla layers. The palate offers a balanced combination of nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness, and a subtle sherry character, culminating in a long, warming finish. The Balvenie Distillery maintains traditional methods, including using home-grown barley, enhancing its distinctive quality and appeal among single malts.
